Our Farm

Our Farm

Gardens of Vaitarna is rooted in a 55-acre farm in Wada, Maharashtra โ€” a region nestled in the foothills of the Sahyadri mountains, fed by the clean waters of the Vaitarna river basin. It is here, away from the noise of cities, that we grow what we sell.

Where We Grow

Wada sits at the edge of the Konkan belt, close enough to the coast to benefit from warm, humid summers โ€” the ideal conditions for Alphonso mangoes. The red laterite soil, river proximity, and the Sahyadri microclimate combine to produce mangoes with the characteristic aroma and flavour that Ratnagiri and Devgad Hapus are famous for.

Our farm is approximately 100 km from Mumbai, reachable via the NH-848. Surrounded by mango orchards, rice paddies, and native forest, it is as much a working farm as it is a place of calm.

What We Grow

  • Alphonso Mangoes (Hapus) โ€” our flagship crop. Handpicked at peak ripeness between March and June.
  • Kesar Mangoes โ€” grown with the same care, harvested slightly later in the season.
  • Wada Kolam Rice โ€” a heritage short-grain rice variety grown in the paddy fields surrounding the orchard.
  • Indrayani Rice โ€” a fragrant medium-grain variety prized in Maharashtra for its soft texture.

How We Farm

We believe that good food starts with good farming. Our practices are guided by three principles:

  • No unnecessary inputs. We avoid synthetic fertilisers and pesticides wherever possible, letting the natural richness of the Sahyadri soil do the work.
  • Handpicked, not machine-harvested. Every mango is picked by hand at the right stage of ripeness. This is the only way to guarantee the quality that goes into our tins.
  • Farmer partnerships. Beyond our own land, we work directly with neighbouring farmer families who have cultivated these same orchards for generations. Fair pricing, no middlemen.

From Farm to Tin

Our mango pulp is processed immediately after harvest at a facility near the farm. Within hours of picking, the mangoes are washed, pulped, and sealed โ€” no added sugar, colour, or preservatives. The result is a tin that tastes exactly like eating a fresh Alphonso straight from the tree.

This is what we mean when we say farm to table. It is not a marketing phrase for us. It is the only way we know how to work.
